In this AWS architecture course you learn to design systems on AWS that are fault tolerant, scalable, secure and cost-effective. It is aimed at cloud architects, developers and team leaders with AWS fundamentals who are accountable for design decisions. You work with the Well-Architected Framework, multi-zone designs, Auto Scaling, decoupling with SQS and SNS, database selection, and strategies for backup and recovery. You also weigh alternatives by cost and risk.
What you’ll take away.
- Assess architectures using the pillars of the Well-Architected Framework
- Design multi-zone and multi-Region layouts for fault tolerance
- Decouple and scale applications with Auto Scaling, load balancers and queues
- Select database and storage services by access pattern, consistency and cost
- Plan recovery strategies by RTO and RPO and optimise costs deliberately
Your training in detail
- Who is it for?
- Cloud architects, developers, technical leads and consultants who design and are accountable for solutions on AWS.
- Prerequisites
- AWS fundamentals such as EC2, S3, VPC and IAM, plus networking knowledge. Experience with at least one application architecture is helpful.
- Format & planning
- Suggested format: 3 to 4 days live online or on site. Scope depends on prior knowledge.
Agenda: from understanding to application
Our independently developed agenda proposal. Focus areas, lab environment and scope are agreed before booking.
Design principles: the Well-Architected Framework and its pillars, trade-offs between cost, performance and reliability, documenting decisions.
Network design: VPC layout with public and private subnets, NAT, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink and hybrid connectivity through VPN or Direct Connect.
Resilience: multiple Availability Zones, Auto Scaling groups, health checks, Route 53 failover and multi-Region patterns.
Decoupling: SQS, SNS, EventBridge, API Gateway, Lambda and Step Functions for loosely coupled architectures.
Data: choosing between RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB and S3, replication, caching with ElastiCache and backup with AWS Backup.
Security and cost: multi-account structure with Organizations, service control policies, encryption, tagging, Savings Plans and rightsizing.
Suggested exercise: You design an architecture across two Availability Zones for a web application, set RTO and RPO and justify each component by cost and risk.

Frequently asked questions
What is the AWS Well-Architected Framework?
It is a collection of questions and best practices for assessing architectures on AWS, covering operations, security, reliability, performance and cost. It is not an audit, but a structured conversation about design decisions. In the course you use it as a guide for your own designs.
What prior knowledge do I need for the AWS architecture course?
You should know the core services EC2, S3, VPC and IAM from practice and understand networking basics. If you are starting from scratch, take the AWS fundamentals course first. Experience in application development or operations makes it easier to put design decisions in context.
What do RTO and RPO mean when planning for resilience?
The recovery time objective defines how long a system may be down after a failure. The recovery point objective defines how much data loss, measured in time, is acceptable. Both values determine whether backup, pilot light, warm standby or an active multi-Region setup is needed.
Does AWS cloud architecture include a certificate?
The related exam is AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate. Fees and exam booking are only included if confirmed in the offer. Attending alone does not award a vendor certification.
