After this training you can test machine learning systems with purpose. You check input data and models, calculate performance metrics, assess AI-specific quality characteristics and contribute to a suitable test strategy. You will also understand how simple neural networks work and what generative AI means for testing. The course suits you if you hold the Foundation Level certificate and work with AI-based systems as a tester or test manager, in data science or in development.
What you’ll take away.
- Place the current state of AI in context, including generative AI
- Apply the AI-specific quality characteristics in ISO/IEC 25059
- Calculate and interpret ML functional performance metrics
- Contribute to a test strategy for ML systems
- Design and run test cases for ML systems
Your training in detail
- Who is it for?
- Testers, test managers and test consultants, as well as data scientists and developers who build AI-based systems and must assure their quality.
- Prerequisites
- ISTQB requires the Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) certificate.
- Format & planning
- Standard length: 3 training days. A different length can be arranged for companies.
Agenda: from understanding to application
Our independently developed agenda proposal. Focus areas, lab environment and scope are agreed before booking.
Introduction to AI and generative AI
Quality characteristics and acceptance criteria for AI systems
Machine learning: data, classification metrics and neural networks
Testing AI-based systems, including LLMs and ML-specific test levels
Testing input data for ML systems
Model testing and testing during ML development
You test a simple classification model: you examine the input data, calculate performance metrics and design test cases for problem scenarios.
Exams, licences & credentials
The course prepares for the ISTQB Certified Tester AI Testing (CT-AI) Version 2.0 exam. The certificate comes from ISTQB through its member boards or exam providers. The exam and fees are included only if confirmed in the offer. It is not an official ISTQB course unless the offer says so.

Frequently asked questions
What about CT-AI Version 1.0?
Version 1.0 is being retired. According to ISTQB, the English exam remains available until 21 April 2027 and other languages until 21 October 2027. This course follows Version 2.0.
What does the exam look like?
ISTQB lists 40 questions in 60 minutes, with 29 of 44 points needed to pass. Candidates who are not native speakers of the exam language get 25 per cent more time.
Does the course cover AI as a testing tool?
No. ISTQB removed this content from Version 2.0, which focuses on testing AI systems. For using generative AI to support testing, there is the separate ISTQB CT-GenAI certification.
Does ISTQB Certified Tester AI Testing (CT-AI) v2.0: testing AI systems include a certificate?
The course prepares for the ISTQB Certified Tester AI Testing (CT-AI) Version 2.0 exam. The certificate comes from ISTQB through its member boards or exam providers. The exam and fees are included only if confirmed in the offer. It is not an official ISTQB course unless the offer says so.
