This course teaches you to build business apps with Power Apps and to automate recurring processes with Power Automate. It is aimed at department staff, citizen developers and IT coordinators who want to introduce low-code solutions on Microsoft's platform. You work with canvas apps, Dataverse tables, cloud flows and approvals. Environments, security roles and data policies are covered too, so that a prototype becomes a solution a team can run and maintain over the long term.
What you’ll take away.
- Design a canvas app with forms, galleries and a data connection to SharePoint or Dataverse
- Model Dataverse tables, columns and relationships for a line-of-business application
- Build cloud flows with triggers, conditions, loops and approvals
- Plan environments, solutions and security roles so that development and production stay separate
- Use error handling and run history to monitor flows and apps

- Suggested format: 2 to 3 days live online or on site. Scope depends on prior knowledge.
Agenda: from understanding to application
Our independently developed agenda proposal. Focus areas, lab environment and scope are agreed before booking.
Platform overview: Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, connectors, environments and how licensing interacts with Microsoft 365.
Canvas apps: screens, forms, galleries, Power Fx formulas, variables, delegation and handling large data volumes.
Data model: Dataverse tables, choice columns, relationships, business rules and a comparison with SharePoint lists as a data source.
Cloud flows: triggers, actions, expressions, parallel branches, approvals and notifications through Teams and Outlook.
Solutions and ALM: exporting solutions, using environment variables and connection references, and promoting from test to production.
Governance: security roles, data loss prevention policies, sharing apps, monitoring in the admin centre and handling flow failures.
Suggested exercise: You build a leave or purchase request app with a Dataverse table and a flow that sends the request for approval and writes the outcome back.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need programming skills for Power Apps and Power Automate?
No. Power Apps uses Power Fx, a formula language that resembles Excel, and Power Automate works with building blocks rather than code. If you know Excel formulas such as IF or VLOOKUP, you will get started quickly. For more complex expressions in flows, logical thinking helps more than programming experience.
What is the difference between canvas apps and model-driven apps?
Canvas apps start with the interface: you place elements freely and connect them to one of many data sources. Model-driven apps start with the data model in Dataverse and generate forms and views automatically. Canvas suits focused tasks, while model-driven suits data-heavy process applications.
Does my Microsoft 365 licence cover Power Apps and Power Automate?
That depends on your licence plan and the connectors you use. Standard connectors such as SharePoint or Outlook are often covered, whereas premium connectors and Dataverse features usually need separate licences. Check this with your IT team before the course so the exercises run in your tenant.
Does Power Apps & Power Automate include a certificate?
The related Microsoft exam is PL-900 (Power Platform Fundamentals). Exam fees and licences are only included if confirmed in the offer. Attending alone does not award a vendor certification.
